Hygienic Cable Glands
Our Hygienic Cable Gland Range
Three SS316L configurations for hygienic cable entries — pick a type for full specifications, or read the full guide below.
VAYTRON hygienic cable glands seal cable entries in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and cleanroom equipment, while leaving nowhere for soil or microorganisms to build up. Machined from 316L stainless steel with a smooth Ra < 0.8 µm finish, blue FDA-compliant seals and a curved, drainable body, they are rated IP68 and IP69K and resist corrosion, impact, acids and alkalis, so they stay sealed and cleanable through demanding daily washdown.
What a hygienic cable gland does, and why a standard gland is not enough
A cable gland seals the point where a cable enters an enclosure or machine. In a food or pharmaceutical plant, that seal also has to survive aggressive cleaning and leave nowhere for product residue or bacteria to collect. Ordinary industrial glands fall short here: their flats, gaps and angled surfaces trap moisture and soil and are hard to clean.
A hygienic cable gland is built the opposite way. Its surfaces are curved and streamlined with rounded corners and no sharp angles, so liquids and cleaning agents drain off completely instead of pooling. There are no dead zones where contaminants can accumulate, which means the cable entry can be cleaned quickly and reliably in a hygiene-critical zone.
Certifications, and what each one means
Specifications matter more than logos. Here is what ours actually cover:
- 3-A Sanitary – confirms the design and materials are suitable for hygienic processing equipment in dairy, food and beverage.
- FDA – the blue H-NBR seal ring and food-grade silicone cable seal use compounds compliant for food contact.
- IP68 and IP69K – protection against long-term submersion (IP68) and close-range high-pressure, high-temperature jet cleaning (IP69K), the washdown method used in food and pharma plants.
- Hygienic design – the curved, drainable 316L body (Ra < 0.8 µm), double sealing ring and anti-rotation grip work together to keep dirt and water out and microorganisms from building up.
Choose the right type
Three configurations cover most hygienic cable-entry needs. Start here, then open the product page for full specifications.
- Type S (Standard) – the everyday choice for sealing cable entries in ordinary hygienic washdown zones.
- Type N (Narrow) – the same hygienic design and sealing in a more compact body for tight mounting depth or limited clearance.
- Type E (EMC) – adds electromagnetic shielding for equipment built around sensitive electronics that must meet EMC requirements.

Why source from VAYTRON
As an integrated manufacturer, we machine, finish and seal in-house, which keeps quality consistent and lead times short. Every gland has a true Ra < 0.8 µm finish, blue food-safe signal-colour seals that are easy to spot, and 3-A / FDA documentation. We support OEM requirements, custom thread types and flexible order quantities, from prototype to series.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between 3-A and EHEDG?
Both describe hygienic design. 3-A is the North American sanitary standard widely used in dairy and food processing, and the one our cable glands are certified to. EHEDG is the European equivalent framework. Our glands carry 3-A and follow the same general hygienic-design ideas: smooth, drainable surfaces and no dead zones.
What does IP69K protect against?
Close-range cleaning with hot water at high pressure, the washdown method used in food and pharma plants. A gland rated only IP68 may handle submersion but not this kind of jet cleaning.
How do I choose the right size?
Match the thread (M12×1.5 to M32×1.5) to your enclosure entry, then check that your cable outer diameter falls within that size range. Across the range, cables from 4.5 to 25 mm are covered. If you are between sizes or need a different thread such as PG or NPT, contact us.
Why are the seals blue?
Blue is the food-industry signal colour: it does not occur naturally in food, so a stray fragment is easy to see, adding a layer of visual contamination control.
SS304 or SS316?
We use 316L as standard. It resists chlorides and acidic cleaning agents far better than 304, which matters in salt-, brine- and disinfectant-heavy environments.
